Steve and I were talking about the blog just the other day when he mentioned some inaccuracies and also a few things that would even further jog my memories of our early motorcycling days. So before I get into the next chapter of our saga, I thought I should clear up a few things and also recognize some key individuals who were a part of those early trips.
I had forgotten, or was perhaps somehow unaware, that after my entry into the motorcycle world, my parents did object to my brother Steve getting a bike. He reminded me that he had to wait until he was 18 and that was when he bought the FJ 1200 from Mark (one of his former teachers). Steve also had very little gap in motorcycle ownership as he purchased a Suzuki GXSR while in college and I had forgotten that he and his wife Becky had bikes during their early days of teaching. After that GSXR, Steve also had a Honda CB990 and a Honda Shadow before purchasing his first Harley, the Road King. I also don't know how I glossed over my interim return to motorcycling after I got my first teaching job. I bought a Yamaha XS1100 from a teacher colleague. The bike had been sitting idle for years in a barn and it ended up taking quite a bit of time to get it cleaned up and back in riding condition. I ended up keeping that bike for nearly 2 years before a job change and move to northern Wisconsin pushed me to sell rather than transport it along with all of our other stuff at the time.
And the omissions... The greatest part of those first camping trips was the company. Roz, Neal, Becky, Tammy and Sandy all made those trips especially memorable.

A stop in Aladdin - Sturgis 2004
And I forgot Greg! He was with us on the Sturgis trip in 04 and rode from Spearfish back to Madison in one day - in abnormally cold August temps...
